Selva + Rafting

Day 1: Depart from Tena to Cando, where we will visit a Quichua community in the jungle.  After getting settled in jungle cabins, we will take a trek through the jungle with a local, English-speaking guide.  The guide will share his/her knowledge of the medicinal plants encountered along the way, as well as point out animals, insects and edible plants.  A picnic lunch will be provided.  Additionally, we will stop by a Quichua home and watch how they make chocolate from the cocoa bean.  The family will also demonstrate how they make chicha, a staple food in their jungle diet.  Here you will also learn how to make local handcrafts before continuing.  If weather allows us, our next stop will be by  a beautiful swimming hole. You will swim in the crystal clear water, while you enjoy a pristine jungle  scenery. We will head to a  waterfall before returning to the cabin for some to relaxation before dinner is served.  Dinner will be a tasty traditional Ecuadorian meal where both vegan and vegetarian options will be included .

Day 2: After breakfast, we will meet up with the rafting guides for a safety speech and equipment check. The rest of the day you will spend it on a  boat  rafting down the Jatun Yacu River. The river is wide and open and the fun begins right away, as rafters hit large, quick waves interspersed with calm pools. Beaches, waterfalls and lush green vegetation make the Jatun Yacu a tropical paradise. The calm sections allow us to kick back and soak in the Selva Verde rain forest scenery. Since there are no inhabitants in the upper regions of the Jatun Yacu, the river is exceptionally clean.  During the trip we will stop for lunch by the riverside. The tour will end in Puerto Napo, a small village; from here we will make the ten minute return trip to Tena by car.
